Victorian Disco Cosmetics Review

About a month ago, I found a woman named Smashley on the Beautylish forum’s. She was about to launch the store for her cosmetics that she had been labouring away on for a year! She wanted to know if certain ladies would like to be apart of the trials; so Immediately I jumped at the chance, as I adore mineral shadows…and let’s face it anything Victorian and anything Disco.

She sent me a bubble mailer with a pretty, decorative cellophane bag; closed with a VDC logo sticker. On the bag was an adorable Hello Kitty Post-It with a personalized note, and in the bag were my 10 products to review.
She has a few different collections prepared for the launch. My first 5 shadows are from the Galaxy Down The Street collection, which in my opinion is a pretty Kick Arse name for a collection.
The Colours I received are: Do the Jabba Jabba, R2, The Fett, Ewok Pajama Party, and Yoda’s Yoga Matt. First of all, the name’s are freaking awesome! Do the Jabba Jabba is this amazing bright, lemony yellow with goldy shimmer-It has awesome pigmentation and blends really nicely. R2 is a beautiful, vivid Sky Blue with Bright, blue shimmer-It has really nice staying power, an eye shadow primer or foiling makes this colour leap off your face! The Fett is one of my favorites! It is a really nice, dusty kind of Violet, with pink and blue shimmer. It is gorgeous foiled! It makes brown eyes and green eyes POP like you wouldn’t believe! Ewok Pyjama Party is the only shadow out of 8 that I’m not too happy with, it is this pretty, dusty, medium grey with purple, gold and green shimmer; but the colour on falls very short of any expectation I had, the pigmentation just isn’t there, neither is the blend-ability, I found this colour to be kind of chalky in texture, I wanted to love it, but it just wasn’t in the cards! Last but definitely not least, Yoda’s Yoga Matt; It is a pale, pale, springy green, with golden/silvery and pink shimmer! It is a stunning highlight colour, and works extremely well if applied to damp primer. The pigmentation and blend-ability are so there with one!
The Next Collection We shall visit is Rococo Roller Rink-which is an even more kick-arse name than the last! The Colours I received from this collection are: Pannier, Revolutionary Ball and Monarchy. Pannier is this awesome Grey/Bronze duo-chrome, with metallic effects. This one is great for foiling, it lends itself to some very elegant makeup looks! The pigmentation and colour payoff are fantastic although it doesn’t have excellent blend-ability like Do The Jabba Jabba has. Revolutionary Ball is this amazing Black/ deep Charcoal base with vibrant blue and purpley-pink shimmer. It is wonderful, if you do tend to be heavy handed when blending, this colour will be gone quick though, it tends to blend away into nothing very quickly! Monarchy is a sassy, medium green with gold and blue shimmer. It is amazingly pigmented, and blends very nicely; I am also in love with the colour payoff, a little bit, definitely goes a very long way with this colour!

Lastly, I received two cosmetic Glitters in Predator, and AC-130. These Glitters are very finely milled hexagonal glitters. Predator is this amazing silvery pink, that reminds me of pearl-ized sequins. AC-130 is a sublime golden glitter, It has bronze-y bits and sunny golden bits, it reminds me of a beautiful beach in summer! The Glitters were applied over my L.A Splash, Splashproof Sealer/Base, and were super beautiful, they have this lovely sheen to their shine;)
CONS: EWOK PAJAMA PARTY! I wanted to love this colour, In the bag it shows a dusty medium grey with purple and blue shimmer. But the pigmentation is too far away, This shadow in particular is very, very chalky-making it hard to work with, and near impossible to apply wet or on primer; likewise to apply dry on bare skin.

That is my only main con! I would rate this company a solid 8.5/10. The quality is good, the formulas are nice, pigmentation and colour payoff are great! I’m in Love with the collections and their respective names, and a super plus, plus is that all the shadows are Vegan! So virtually anyone can use them! I can’t wait to order more!

Icy Blue Smoky Eye with Double Winged Liner!

Hey Guys!
I've filmed a tutorial for a smoky blue eye look with double winged liner, that will make you stand out and be noticed at any holiday party this season, or next!

Quick walk through:
Prime Eyelid with L.A splash splashproof sealer/base.
apply a base coat of intense blue/green. I used Salt N' Peppermint by Sleek cosmetics.
Then apply Fade to grey from Sleek or a Metallic Silver shadow to inner third of eyelid.
Next apply an aquamarine/shimmer to middle and outer third of lid, I used the middle colour in Rimmel London Trio in Maritime. Using the darkest blue in the same trio, apply to socket.
Then take Barry White by Sleek or similar white shimmery highlight, and apply to tear duct, sweeping up to innermost quarter and lower lash line as well as a straight line coming up from bottom lash line diagonally. Over top of that I took the soft highlight colour from the Maritime Trio and patted that over Barry White.
Apply Blue Monday from Sleek or similar Dark Navy shimmer to last third of socket, and blend into inner socket.

I love the finished look! don't you?

Here are the colours I used from left to right:
Top: Salt N' Peppermint by Sleek, Middle Aquamarine Shimmer from Rimmel Maritime, Darkest Blue from Rimmel Maritime,Fade to Grey from Sleek, Blue Monday from Sleek
Bottom: Barry White from Sleek, Highlight from Rimmel Maritime, MAYBELLINE LINE Stiletto in Blackest Black, L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Carbon Black.

I Heart Matte Pallette from Wet'N'Wild

I reviewed the Wet'N'Wild I Heart Matte Pallette this month with a few fellow beauty obsessed gals!

First things first, right when you pick up this palette, you are awestruck by the bright, bold vivids and neutrals. These shadows are super soft and velvety, really sleek and smooth, and they apply like butter, they just seems to adhere to your lids in the best possible way!
They have really great wear lengths, when applied over NYX eyeshadow base, they wear about 9-10 hours! Alone they wear about 4-5 Hours, without creasing or too much fading and they have fair colour payoff, a little more than you'd expect from a cost effective brand like Wet'N'Wild. Actually everything about this pallette exceeds my expectations! the quality of the shadows, the vibrant colours included, the wear!

from left to right; White, Green, Blue Matte w/Sparkle, Purple Matte w/Sparkle, Nude, Peachy Peach, Chocolate/Coffee, Black.

My most worn eye look using this Palette is the Nude on the brow bone, the peachy peach on the lid, the chocolate colour in my socket blended out, then I add the purple to the outer corners of the socket. it's a really pretty wearable-to-work look.

Let's talk price! This is a WalGreen's exclusive Pallette, meaning you can only buy it in the States, (I got mine from eBay!) it normally retails at WalGreen's for $4.99 USD (in Canada it would probably cost $5.49) which is an awesome price for such a great pallette! I payed $13.63 CAD (including shipping) It was definitely worth it, I don't know what I'll do when I run out!

I would have to give this palette an 8.5 out of 10

IMATS 2011 EXPERIENCE!!!

I went to IMATS Toronto this past Sunday and had a blast! I took my younger sister; Skye and we had the best time! We met Koren Zander of Enkore makeup Fame, we saw Elessa Jade of PurseBuzz, Bought everything and ate french fries like Bosses.

We arrived to the Toronto Congress Centre at about 9:35 a.m, and were able to Purchase our tickets Immediately, we joined a short line and were let into the show at about 9:48. I was very surprised and delighted. I've never been to any sort of "Convention" where it's so well handled, and so easy for the attendees to get in and out without complaint. The Centre was very clean, as were the bathrooms (FINALLY!!!), and as far as I know; the ATM did not run out of Cash!

As soon as we were let in, almost everyone rushed over to the NYX booth; I could see why, amazing quality for even amazing-er prices! To my dear Skye's dismay they were almost completely sold out of their soft matte lip cream's I had heard so much about, so she purchased a burgundy-red colour in the lip cream as well as a foundation and an eyebrow pencil; I bought: eyeshadows and bronzer, lip laquer and eyeliner, lip liner, nail varnish, eyeshadow base, makeup removing cleansing oil, false lashes and an eyebrow pencil.

After we left NYX we ventured over to Crown Brush (imho: the best brush company ever!) and bought, bought, bought, purchased, at least 4 times throughout the day; many, many brushes, brush cleaner, cotton pads, an eyeshadow palette (from Jordane), and Single Use Spatula's!

We went over to peruse: NARS who were selling at normal price, Naked Cosmetics who have the neatest mineral shadows and cosmetics, eye kandy glitters, LA Splash Cosmetics (I bought their eyeshadow sealer--it's freakin' amazing!), and a few others.

Then we went to see the O.C.C booth, and the beautiful Lip Tar's. We tested them all, then purchased Hoochie for myself: which is this awesome intense lavendery magenta shade. and Skye purchased NSFW: which is a very true red.

We also visited Royal and LangNickel brush Co. to purchase a few of their brushes, and Bdellium Tools to pick up a few more! One can never have too many brushes. I now have a bajillion brushes, well 32 to be exact.

Model In a Bottle was one of our final stops for the day, Unfortunately their debit machine got busted in Transit, so I called The Best Boyfriend in the World! and he came to bring me some cash. I purchased their sensitive skin formula setting spray and I must say so far I am very impressed!

Overall we had a great day at IMATS and I will for sure be attending other years!

Coconut Oil To The Rescue!

I heard somewhere that every 7 years your body chemistry changes, which could hold some truth. Some have no allergies and then all of a sudden are burdened with an assortment of allergies, I decided to research this, and found extremely mixed results. This leads me to believe that this "7 year" phenomena is partially truthful.

My poor skin is suffering! my skin has always been sensitive and fairly dry; especially in the winter/late fall. This year my Skin is extremely parched, worse than desert terrain! It hurts without multiple moisturizing products, and putting on my foundation is an extremely painful endeavor!

My mum has eczema on her hands, BAD! so we always have über moisturizing products in the house. This morning in particular; I was beside myself! The sahara-like conditions of my skin were way too much to bear, so I took to the Coconut Oil, and slathered it all over my face and decollete area--Boy was I pleased, I smell like delicious treats, and my skin is happy for the first time in weeks!

You can purchase a massive jar of Coconut Oil at any health food or Bulk store, I believe this particular one came from a Shopper's Drug Mart.
Stay Happy and Healthy

Benefit High Beam-Favorite product Review!

So I was wracking my brain trying to come up with something to post about today, It's my day off-and it seemed appropriate that I write a new blog post. I have been so excited and pre-occupied with IMATS, that it has been tricky to update.

I figured it was time to write a review of Benefit's High Beam, I've had it for months; I still have half a bottle and I use it everyday! This product is amazing, It's perfectly shimmery and it has an amazing creamy consistency. Benefit says ...

"Why we love it

Our satiny pink liquid highlighter accents cheek & brow bones for a radiant glow. Use as a spot highlighter or delicately blend all over your complexion. Looks perfectly radiant on all skintones. It's the "supermodel in a bottle!""

I love it, you only need the smallest amount-I use two dabs on my cheek bones and then pat/rub it in, the glow that it gives me takes the place of a mini Tahitian vacation for my complexion! Now don't get me wrong it isn't a tanner, and it doesn't make me darker, it makes me glow, it gives me a radiance that other highlighting products just can't!

It's Overall rating (On the Website) is 4.7/5 stars and Many others seem to love it just as much as I do. I may try other illuminating products in the future; but I will always go back to High Beam!

Do you Beauties have any "must use" products in your arsenal's?

IMATS'11 and Dry Skin, HELP ME!

I haven't been purchasing many beauty products lately in anticipation for IMATS Toronto 11! I'm going on the Sunday-November 13th with my sister Skye. It is going to be so amazing! I've heard amazing things from people who attended in the past, and I'm finally going in my 22nd year!
I plan to grab a lip tar or two and maybe some OCC nail lacquer's, some NYX products, Orgasm in the multiple from NARS maybe some Make Up For Ever, butt-loads of brushes (you can NEVER have TOO many brushes!) and maybe get a bit of my Christmas shopping done.
The cold weather brings fireplaces, holidays, cute boots and coats, delicious holiday inspired lattes, and of course...the dreaded dry skin, lips and hair. I despise this time, because even my super dry skin moisturizers don't give me enough! I NEEED HELP! My normal lip balm doesn't give me enough moisture either, my hair seems to be okay for the most part as it's not over washed. I NEED A WINTER FRIENDLY MOISTURIZER/SKINCARE ROUTINE!!! what are your favorites for the holiday season?

Favorite Polish for November-Misa-Like it Like That

It's no secret that I have a penchant for bright and vivid colours, whether it be in clothing and accessories, makeup or hair; I love loud, punchy colour! It's no different when it comes to my nail varnish; My absolute favorite nail lacquer at the moment is "Like it Like That" shade 236 by Misa Nail Lacquer. I already wrote my review of it, I know, Okay? There's something charming and very sophisticated about this Opalescent Emerald Hue, I've just got to shout from the rooftops about!

First of all, under most indoor 60 watt bulbs it appears a very deep, dark emerald/blue, almost Oceanic! My Camera can't begin to capture it's beautiful shimmering colour, as it seems to take on a chameleon-like character under different lights; but each and every one is absolutely stunning!

It's a very hard polish making for a very clean manicure and a very long lasting one, I've done my nails about a week ago with this polish and just a few minor chips at the very tips of my nails (which I'm extremely hard on, btw). This polish just continues to amaze and surprise me with it's awesome-ness! and at $7.95 CAD it's a super steal!

Halloween!

So Unfortunately I worked this Halloween. I closed the Store at my Old Navy. We don't dress up, so I went in with false lashes and halloween accessories. I did However; wake up at 5 a.m to start on my sister's festive makeup:)
Tasha asked me to make her a Road-Rash Zombie, slightly cartoony and very bloody. I like to think I obliged well. She was super cute, one side was all raw looking and the other side of her face was a cartoony greenish grey zombie:)

Skye wanted me to do "whatever" to half of her face, so that one side was normal but when she turned her head, she wanted that WOW factor. I gave her a shelf-butting head gash, a bloody nose and an air-ated cheek complete with a latex tooth that was hand painted.

Courtney wanted Black Dahlia corpse. So I spent the evening researching crime scene and autopsy photos. We went with wax for the slit mouth, and grease paints for the coloring.

I had so much fun doing the makeup for these guys, I love inventing looks and making them my own. It gives me so much practical knowledge as well, I can apply techniques I've seen, read and heard about.
I hope you all had a fantastic Hallow's Eve!

Misa Nail Lacquer in 232 and 236 review

I don't have too much experience with the colour pink; Truthfully, I've shied away from that hue my entire 22 years. Being an Über-femme kinda girl: Curling and ironing and dieing my hair, and what with my makeup obsession, (I can fill the shoes of June Cleaver) the colour pink has always been thrust upon me and I've always thrusted it right back. Until recently I haven't owned anything pink! My first pink lipstick was purchased this past summer, and I liked it so much--it's changed my opinion on the formerly hideous hue.

I purchased two Misa Nail Lacquer's last night, They were on a Buy one get one half off deal, and I jumped at the opportunity (literally). I purchased shade 232-Wink, Blink, Let's get a Drink; a really elegant, hot pinky, fuschia-ish shimmer and shade 236-Like it Like That; a really wonderful deep, emerald-blue shimmer.

All it took was one coat of 232 and my nails look the colour of the photo! It turned out great, and I love that this lacquer is so opaque, you can practically do an entire hand with one dip of this stellar polish, and the best part is the beautiful blue, red and coral shimmer payoff. Misa is fairly inexpensive retailing at $7.95 CAD and I ended up paying $11.95 CAD for these two beautiful and full size polishes! super steal, I will definitely be buying more Misa Lacquer in the future.

Victorian Circus Performer Tutorial on YouTube

I've uploaded my contest entry look for Rag Doll Cosmetics Halloween Contest. I was inspired by the 2011 Scream awards show presenter/escort/stand behind celebrities and look gorgeous women. The show was themed circus/carnival sideshow this year, and I knew I had to do a look based on this!

I've been called a freak show many a time in my short life, and this time I really am! This look is super simple, and very very fun! I used a white flesh grease base from Ben Nye, Maybelline cream eyeliner in black, A black sparkly eyeshadow, A Mauve Blusher, and some face paints!

Wet-N-Wild Fast dry in Silvivor Review

This is by far my most favorite nail varnish available in drug stores!
It retails at only $2.99 (CAD) and is a "fast-dry" product--which above being fairly true to form, is mighty convenient. You can paint a whole hand with only one or two dips, also the texture is amazing, it's rich and velvety but not to thick in consistency.

It was love at first coat; but then I applied a second, and fell even more in love with this polish! It has superior coverage, it's fairly opaque and super awesome metallic-y/sparkle shine! It's like liquid chrome! it's wonderful!

I will be purchasing many more of these in the future:)

WHAT THE DOUBLE-H-E-HOCKEY STICKS ELF?

elf cosmetics is a quite-good-value-for-the-price company. I adore quite a few elf products, particularly their brushes, I have their mineral angled contour brush, it's really great; especially for a freebie that accompanied an order! Recently, However; I picked up an all over eyeshadow brush from them--and it's falling to bits--quite literally!

I'm rather upset with this. I'm aware that elf is a less expensive alternative to higher priced cosmetics companies, but when the quality of your brush is to fall apart (the bristles, the ferrule seperated from the handle completely) in one use!!! that is a tad upsetting. I thought the goal of this cosmetics company was to make the art of cosmetics available to everyone regardless of price point, I'm beginning to second guess that notion.

I guess in order to get quality, you have to pay for it, Crown Brush makes great quality brushes, they've held up very well!
